Having lost on first innings last week the CYs first XI were looking for an improved performance to complete the first half of the season. St. Albans commenced at 5-155 and began brightly. Mihelkas proved that he could hook and pull, a shot that he executed for boundaries each of the five times that Hags dropped short. In fact it was in this manner that the 200 was raised. The seconds were unable to take enough wickets quickly enough to stave off a first innings defeat against St. Albans who declared their first innings closed at 8-164. The CYs second innings realised 6-118 from 60 overs as St. Albans gave all eleven players a couple of overs.

The seconds amassed a total of 105 against St.Albans in 53 overs. At stumps they had removed three of the St.Albans batsmen but with only 25 runs to take first innings points there will need to be a spate of early wickets next week.

If St Albans are the benchmark of this division, then on this performance the CY’s First XI are a long way behind the pace. Both clubs have had a very successful start to the season and entered the game in second and third on the ladder, not even at the half way point of the season and the lead into the game was one of much anticipation for the club as a win would go a long way to cementing a finals spot.
